Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) Tapping

In 2017, I was introduced to Energy Psychology, and more specifically to Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT), often called “tapping.” EFT is a mind-body practice that many people use to support emotional wellbeing and manage stress, anxiety, low mood, and the emotional effects of difficult experiences.

I was drawn to EFT after using it myself for the first time and noticing how helpful it felt. Over the years, I’ve used tapping for everyday stress as well as for emotional challenges connected to living with a chronic autoimmune condition diagnosed in childhood. While EFT does not treat or cure physical illness, many people find it helpful for easing the emotional stress that can accompany health challenges.

EFT tapping involves gently tapping on specific points on the body with your fingertips while bringing attention to a particular issue or feeling. The technique has roots in both modern psychology and traditional Chinese medicine concepts. It was originally developed by psychologist Dr. Roger Callahan, who explored the use of tapping on acupuncture points alongside psychological techniques, leading to the development of Thought Field Therapy (TFT). Later, Gary Craig adapted this work into a simplified, standardized method called Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT), making it more accessible to the public.

After experiencing the benefits of EFT personally, I chose to pursue professional training so I could support others in their mental and emotional wellbeing. I have completed Level 1 and Level 2 EFT training through the Association for Comprehensive Energy Psychology (ACEP). This training includes trauma-informed applications of EFT. When used in this context, EFT can function similarly to exposure-based approaches by gently focusing on aspects of past experiences in a safe and controlled way, with the goal of reducing emotional intensity over time.

If you’re interested in exploring EFT with me, I would be honored to support you. I invite you to join me in this work and discover tools that may help you feel more balanced, supported, and at ease.
